Offer Treatment to Eliminate Varicose Veins Without Surgery
(continued

Using
todays most advanced medical laser technology, the laser treatment
makes varicose veins vanish without all the disadvantages of older treatments,
says Dr. David Peeler of Mid-South Imaging & Therapeutics. Its
a quick, effective outpatient procedure that involves minimal discomfort.
After treatment, a patient can simply walk out of the office and resume
normal activities immediately.
What
is EVLT or endovenous laser therapy?
EVLT is a new minimally invasive procedure to treat the incompetence of
the greater saphenous vein in just 45-minutes as an outpatient procedure.
How is the treatment different from surgery?
It is minimally invasive, meaning the tiny puncture site where the radiologist places the laser fiber is extremely small. There is really no recovery to speak of, which is common with surgery. The patient will be up and walking as soon as the procedure is over. The risk of infection is very low and the procedure involves minimal discomfort.
How does a laser treat varicose veins?
The laser delivers laser energy to the tissue, causing the vein to close. Your body automatically routes the blood to other healthy veins.
What happens during the procedure?
The procedure takes about 1 hour. No general anesthesia is required, just a local anesthetic. The radiologist inserts a thin laser fiber into the vein and laser light is emitted.
Are lasers safe?
A laser is a highly concentrated beam of light. Medical lasers use extreme precision so surrounding tissues are not affected. Lasers are used in all kinds of medical procedures, from eye surgery to dermatology.
When will I see the results?
Although there may be some slight swelling right after the procedure, some patients see results right away.
Will the results last?
Laser treatment has proven to be 97% effective in clinical trials. You should experience no reoccurrence in the veins that have been treated.
