What is a hepatobiliary scan?
A hepatobiliary scan is a scan of the gallbladder and biliary system.

Why do I need a hepatobiliary scan?
You may need a hepatobiliary scan if you have been having abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, or chest pain due to gall bladder or biliary disease.

How do I prepare for my hepatobiliary scan?
You must not eat or drink anything for about 3 - 4 hours before the test.

What can I expect during the test?
You will be injected with a radioactive isotope and pictures will be taken for approximately one to two hours.

What do I do after my hepatobiliary scan?
There are no special instructions. You may return to your normal activities. You will receive the results from your physician.
